Williams Meets Leo Docherty MP Minister for Military People & Veterans
Wing Commander Noel Williams, the Chair of the RAF Association in Northern Ireland, met Minister Leo Docherty MP on his fact finding visit to Northern Ireland last week.
The meeting was held in the Great Hall, Queens University, and several organisations who offer care and services to veterans, were present to inform the Minister of the facilities they provide.
Wg Cdr Williams said: “It was a pleasure to meet Minister Docherty and to appraise him of the work the RAF Association is doing in Northern Ireland and the welfare services we are providing through our Branches. As the Charity for the ‘Whole RAF Family’ we pride ourselves with our interaction with veterans, be it for welfare support or simply the camaraderie we enjoy at our monthly meetings, which we hope will ‘go live’ again in August as opposed to virtual gatherings.
“As a local councillor on Mid & East Antrim I was delighted to see so many council’s Veterans Champions also attending the meeting and taking the opportunity to inform the Minister of issues in their own locality.”
Williams concluded: “I had a bit of a laugh with the Ex Guardsman Minister who, like many others on a lovely morning was attending the event with an open neck shirt. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to present him with a RAF Association tie, which to my surprise, he put on and wore for the rest of the meeting.”
