Translink Tree Management Programme

From the 19th December, Translink’s Tree Management Programme will be operational in Carrickfergus and Greenisland to remove vegetation that has become a potential hazard to the railway line, and its users, in order to maintain safe rail operations.

The Tree Management Programme has been established following Translink’s assessment of the trees aligning the whole of the Northern Ireland rail network.

Mr Dickson said: “To ensure passengers and rail employees are safe, it is incumbent upon Translink to manage trees and shrubbery around our rail infrastructure.

“I am assured that whilst these works are necessary, Translink has concurrent environmental offsetting plans, which includes the planting of 9,000 trees over the next four years.”

Mayor Williams said: “As these works are due to be carried out at night, between 12am and 5:30am, I understand many local residents will be concerned about disruption. Rest assured, Translink are committed to carrying out these works as quickly as possible, and will have noise mitigation measures in place.

“For those with concerns, Translink are contactable online and by phone.”
