Stewart Speaks on the Inquiry Report on the Impact of Covid in Care Homes
On Monday 1st February, the Stormont Health Committee published it's report on coronavirus in Northern Irish care homes. Speaking in the Chamber, Stewart welcomed the report, stating that our social care system has for far too long, been run on a shoe string.
Echoing the opinions of Age NI, Marie Curie, and the Commission for Older People, Stewart highlighted issues relating to recruitment, remuneration, and retention, as well as the need to improve the training for care home staff, and the staff-to-resident ratio.
Stewart went on to express concern over inspection failings, regulation enforcement, and the priorities of some care home owners. He called for routine inspections to restart as soon as possible.
