Dickson Frustrated by the Lack of Covid Testing Facility in Larne
East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has expressed his frustration at the lack of Covid-19 testing facilities in Larne, saying unfair barriers such as cost and time are making it much more difficult for residents to access testing.
Mr Dickson commented: “At the start of August, I wrote to the Health Minister calling for a Covid-19 test facility in Larne. At present, those residing in Larne have to travel to either Ballymena or Carrickfergus to obtain a test. This is far from ideal as many individuals do not own private cars, and cannot take public transport for fear of spreading the virus.
“The situation is now even more acute. Since children have returned to school a Principal in Larne has been in touch stating he has had to send three classes of pupil’s home to be tested for Covid-19, but parents are having significant difficulties accessing testing. Some parents do not have the resources to travel to Carrickfergus, Ballymena or Belfast, and the Principal believes that there is now an overwhelming need for a PCR testing facility in the Larne area. It is clear that Larne desperately needs such a facility.
“I have today, again written to the Health Minister drawing this escalating problem to his attention seeking urgent action. It is vitally important that anyone experiencing Covid-19 symptoms is tested, both for their own protection, and for those around them, so it is crucial that testing is easily accessible for all.”
