Dickson Commends Businesses Signing Up to the Climate Action Pledge
East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, has congratulated Translink for signing Northern Ireland’s Business in the Community’s Climate Action Pledge. The Pledge is a public commitment to achieving an ambitious target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.
In commending Translink, Mr Dickson said: “We are battling a global climate crisis, that requires everyone, and every business, to play their part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and embracing cleaner energy practices for the future.
“This Pledge encourages businesses operating in Northern Ireland to take protective action against the climate emergency and commit to achieving ambitious targets to reduce their carbon footprint.
“I would encourage all businesses across Northern Ireland to take heed of Translink’s example and consider what more they can be doing to address the climate crisis.”
Speaking a week after the Alliance Party announced it’s Green New Deal, Mr Dickson added: “Addressing the climate emergency goes part and parcel with economic and social transformation, and that is why the Alliance Party has published our Green New Deal which outlines plans for a major investment-led, green recovery, post-pandemic and post-Brexit.
“The plan highlights the policies and practices that have been hindering Northern Ireland’s progress, whilst exploiting both our people and our planet. It also emphasises the enormous opportunities in moving towards a sustainable, green economy.
With businesses signing up to the Climate Action Pledge, it is clear that they too understand the importance of focusing on sustainability and green recovery.”
Translink’s announcement also coincides with the launch of their new Climate Positive Strategy that sets out plans to deliver a clean transport future achieving net zero emissions across the organisation’s buses, trains, and buildings by 2040, and then becoming Climate Positive by 2050.
