Dickson and Williams Suggest Alternate Libraries Whilst Greenisland Library Undergoes Refurbishment

East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson, and Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Alderman Noel Williams, have urged Greenisland Library members to use nearby libraries whilst Greenisland Library is refurbished.

Mr Dickson said: “Due to much-needed refurbishment work, Greenisland Library will unfortunately have to be closed from Monday 5 December until Summer 2023. However, whilst the library is temporarily closed, members can visit all other public libraries.

“For Greenisland residents, the closest libraries can be found in Carrickfergus, Cloughfern, Rathcoole, and Whitehead.

Mr Williams said: “We know how disruptive this closure will be to many, so we have taken steps to try and reduce the inconvenience.

“For instance, we are planning for a mobile library to park in the layby on the green directly facing the Baptist Church on Thursday 15th December from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, and then alternate Thursdays from 13th January at the same times. This arrangement is planned to continue until the refurbishment works are completed”.

The planned refurbishment work includes the installation of a new heating and ventilation system, new roof covering with improved insulation, new entrance doors, new energy efficient lighting throughout, and internal and external redecoration.

During the library closure, items can be renewed online with a library membership card and PIN number which is available from library staff.

eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines can also be borrowed through the online library.

During this temporary closure, customers can visit any public library. The closest libraries include:
